Founded as Forum Iulii around 50 B.C. by Julius Caesar, Cividale acquired great importance in the 6th century A.D. when it became the seat of the first Longobard duchy in Italy and the main center of the region.
The Longobard Temple, famous for its stuccoes and frescoes, the Cathedral and the Celtic Hypogeum, carved out of the rock, are the highlights of our tour along with the Town Hall, the Main Square and the Devil’s bridge, which is considered the town’s symbol.
Cividale is also well known for its top wines, great food (Gubana is a delicious specialty - a type of strudel with apples, pine seeds and raisins – that you should not miss!) and close position to the finest wine cellars of the region!
