Departure from Udine at 8.30 a.m. to start a wonderful day out visiting the Postojna Caves, one of the largest and most easily accessible networks of underground caves in the world.

The tour begins with a short a ride in an electric train and continues with a guided walk through a series of floodlit subterranean caverns, halls and corridors carved out by the Pivka River through the centuries and decorated with shining stalactites and stalagmites and enormous maze of crystalline stone curtains, pillars and altars. The underground waters flowing in the cave system are also the home of the world's unique “human fish”, an endangered species of the amphibian Proteus Anguinus, which is the only cave-dwelling vertebrate in Europe.

The tour then continues towards Predjama, home of the impressive and picturesque Predjama Castle. It was built in the 12th century into an overhanging rock in front of a limestone cave which often became the hide-out of brigands. The most famous inhabitant of the castle was a knight and robber baron named Erasmus of Predjama who lived there in the 15th century.
